Gwyn Jones - Director Association of Sustainability Practitioners

Gywn Jones

My early career saw me living in The Netherlands, Hong Kong and Switzerland creating running IT Professional Services organisations across Europe, Middle East, Far East and Africa. On returning to the UK in 2007 I turned my attentions and energies to a very different purpose, one that unifies all aspects of my life, focusing on the impact and legacy I want to create for future generations. This involves transformational change at organisational and personal levels for people as citizens, members of communities, and leaders in organisations of all sizes, both public and private sector.

Sustainable Organisations. I’ve been instrumental in the creation of several organisations focused on different aspects of sustainability that includes GACSO (Global Association of Corporate Sustainability Officers) and ASP (Association of Sustainability Practitioners).

Recently I lead the recruitment of a Chair and various Board positions for Riversimple, a high-tech SME as it moves from research and development to full-production as a totally sustainable organisation. The focus was on creating a balanced team who share Riversimple’s founding principles and purpose.

Sustainable Communities. For the past few years I have been supporting a behaviour change technology company to provide their systems to various Local Authorities and NHS Trusts for health and wellbeing and sustainable transport initiatives. We are supporting communities across the UK, to increase the overall health and wellbeing of the community and the residents.

Chair of the Resilient Dorset collaboration a group of senior representatives from local authorities, NGO’s, companies and other organisations to facilitate, plan, support and/or implement projects of benefit to the communities in Dorset. Our aim is to develop and roll-out processes that allow organisations and project managers to become aware of the dependencies their projects have on the natural environment, local community/society and the local economy. And then to identify the impacts their projects/activities will have upon these so that they/we can make smarter choices that lead to us nurturing those “assets” that they are dependent upon and making these projects both more valuable and valued. Sustainability in a really practical way that starts from where we are today.
